Christmas Tree Lighting

2019 Christmas Tree Lighting

Santa and Mrs. Claus officially kicked off the Christmas holiday season at the 17th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 6 at Sugar Land Town Square. The merry sounds of the holiday echoed from a host of talented entertainment groups, while a sensational soundtrack of Christmas songs and dazzling dance routines captivated thousands of event attendees.

The stage show featured a slate of dynamic holiday performers that included: Inspiration Stage, the 2018 and 2019 winners of Sugar Land Superstar, Sartartia Middle School Sweethearts, Fort Bend Christian Academy, EPIC Center for Dance, Commonwealth Elementary Fifth Grade Chorus and Recorder Choir, Anjuli Perubhatla, Sugar Land Middle School Cheer, Inspiration Stage, Sugar Land Sound Chorus, NuBirth Children’s Choir from the Fountain of Praise Church and Tropical Rhythms.

A collection of businesses and non-profit organizations offered a variety of children crafts, edible treats, and festive games, as well as balloon art and face painting for the children to enjoy. Attendees also took advantage of shopping for gifts and dining opportunities among Sugar Land Town Square restaurants and retailers.

In addition, a fine art component was featured in the form of an ice sculpture! Spectators were amazed at the craftsmanship of a local artist who worked diligently from beginning to end - chiseling, filing and using a special torch to transform a large block of ice into the number 60 as a tribute to Sugar Land’s 60th Anniversary. Uniquely designed ice mugs were also available.

Other prime event activities included oversized, snow-themed inflatables and an opportunity for little ones to write and send their letters to Santa. Various photo opportunities were presented to attendees for capturing long-lasting memories. Santa Claus and numerous holiday-themed, walk-around entertainment took numerous holiday photographs.

In honor of Sugar Land’s 60th Anniversary, a special Christmas ornament was designed and available for attendees to purchase. During the show’s intermission, residents and visitors also joined in a collective rendering of the ‘Happy Birthday’ in honor of Sugar Land. To commemorate Sugar Land’s Birthday sweet treats were available for sale by local eateries, including The Sweet Boutique Bakery, Turquoise Grill & Bar, Kilwin’s, Decadent Coffee and Dessert Bar, and Stacked Ice Cream. The event finale included a countdown led by Santa, Mrs. Claus, and city officials for the lighting of the 40-foot Christmas tree in the middle of Town Square plaza, following a dynamic fireworks display that lit up the night sky.

Thank you to all of our sponsors, performers, food vendors and artisans for helping to create an unforgettably magical evening!
