What is the Airport Academy?

The Sugar Land Airport Academy provides a comprehensive overview of aviation operations and the facility’s important role in the regional economy. Participants learn about the history of Sugar Land Regional Airport (SLRA), the role of the airport in the City’s organization, the scope of airport operations and the economic impact on the region and the benefits provided to Sugar Land.

SLRA is the foremost general reliever airport in the southwest Houston metro sector handling more than 7200 aircraft each month.

Aviation International News recently ranked Sugar Land Regional Airport’s Fixed Base of Operation (FBO) #1 FBO in the Americas, the only City-owned FBO to make the prestigious list.

Classes begin: February 4, 2010

Schedule

February 4 through March 11, 2010

Eligible candidates must:

  • Currently reside in Sugar Land, Texas or Sugar Land Extraterritorial Jurisdiction or a realtor who specializes in the community 
  • Registered voter
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Not a City of Sugar Land employee
  • Not currently holding or running for elected office in any city, school district, county, state or federal election
  • Willing to commit to attendance of all sessions
