Citizen Involvement Programs


  • Community Assistance Response Team (CAST) – An exciting program offering citizens an opportunity help SLPD make Sugar Land safer.
  • Citizens Fire Academy – Fire fighting, large-scale emergency management, medical emergencies, smoke detectors for citizens in need. You'll be right beside the SLFD personnel in this informative and exciting series of classes.
  • Citizens Police Academy – Take an inside look" at the Sugar Land Police department where participants receive "hands on" instruction in crime scene investigation, patrol procedures, firearms training and much more.
  • Citizens Emergency Response Team – The Sugar Land Fire Department is creating Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) to respond to emergencies within neighborhoods.
  • MYAC - Mayor's Youth Advisory Council – Working along side other talented young people, you'll become involved with City staff on projects beneficial to the community and advise City leadership on important issues for young people.
  • Sugar Land 101 – By the end of this 10-week course, you will have an understanding of the structure and functions of one of the most successful municipal governments anywhere.
  • Sugar Land Airport Academy – provides a comprehensive overview of aviation operations and the facility's important role in the regional economy. Participants learn about the history of Sugar Land Regional Airport (SLRA), the role of the airport in the City's organization, the scope of airport operations and the economic impact on the region and the benefits provided to Sugar Land.

Objectives

Serve Sugar Land is dedicated to:

  • Providing positive and enriching volunteer opportunities to enhance citizen participation in City government
  • Developing a reliable and varied skill network of citizen resources to support the delivery of services to the community
  • Increasing public awareness of municipal services, functions & responsibilities
  • Enhancing the delivery of City services by using volunteers to complement paid staff throughout City departments
  • Enhancing the effectiveness and quality of public services beyond tax support limitations
  • Supporting innovative ways of solving community problems through volunteer organization and coordinated efforts
  • Recognizing those individuals within the community dedicated to serving their City
  • Fostering an atmosphere of service and community within the City of Sugar Land

Application Process

The Citizen Volunteer Application Process goes through 5 steps.

  1. Interested citizen wishes to enroll in the City's volunteer program or finds a specific opportunity posted on the City's Serve Sugar Land web site that they wish to sign up for

  2. Citizen completes and submits the Volunteer Application to the Volunteer Program Office electronically or by mail or fax to 281-275-2721 or scan to volunteer@sugarlandts.gov.
    (Please note: if applicant is under the age of 18, the application must be filled out and signed by a legal guardian)

  3. Once application is verified, the Volunteer Program Office enters the citizen into the City's volunteer database and passes along the name and contact information of the interested citizen to the departmental contact for the specific opportunity referenced or keeps their name on file for future opportunities as they become available

  4. The departmental volunteer supervisor contacts the citizen directly and coordinates the volunteer's activities and time commitments

  5. Each volunteer records their time and submits their volunteer log to their volunteer supervisor

you have already submitted your application please email the Volunteer Office with your request

at volunteer@sugarlandtx.gov or call 281-275-2329.

Animal Shelter

Volunteers must be 14 years old or more

MUST SIGN UP FOR AND COMPLETE ORIENTATION PRIOR TO VOLUNTEERING.

Animal Shelter is located at 101 Gillingham Lane, next to the recycle facility

Archive Building is located at 115 Brooks St. , next to Hwy 90A  

Community Center is located next door, closer to softball fields, at 226 Matlage Way    

Fire Administration is located at 10405 Corporate Drive, previous City Hall building

Garden- is located on Gillingham Lane, next to the recycle facility and Animal Shelter

Memorial Park is located at 15300 University Blvd. in between Commonwealth Blvd. and University of Houston- Sugar Land  

Municipal Court is located at 1200 Highway 6 and shares a building with Police Dept

Public Works is located at 111 Gillingham Drive off of Hwy 90A

Senior Center is located at 200 Matlage Way and shares a building with Parks and Rec.

Sugar Land Regional Airport is located at 12888 B Highway 6, north of Hwy 90A
