Sugar Land is again offering residents a great opportunity to learn, serve and lead the City. The 10 week 2011 spring program begins January 20, 2011 and provides an in-depth look at how our City runs.
Sugar Land 101, a course first introduced in spring 2004, allows citizens to familiarize themselves with the structure, function and purpose of City government. It better equips and encourages residents to assume leadership roles within the community. The curriculum includes presentations by City department heads and field trips to several sites such as the municipal airport, fire and police departments, water treatment plant, traffic operations. Members of the class also hold a Mock City Council meeting.
Enrollment is limited and diversity is sought in class makeup. Applications for the Spring 2011 class will be available on August 1, 2010 and will be due October 31,2010.
Eligible candidates must:
- Currently reside within Sugar Land City Limits (this does not include the Extra Territorial Jurisdiction)
- Resident of Sugar Land at least one year
- A registered voter in Fort Bend County
- Not currently holding or running for elected office in any city, school district, county, state or federal election
- Willing to commit to attendance of sessions and tours
