The City Attorney’s Office seeks to provide legal services to the City Council, boards and commissions, City management, and employees that:
are of the highest quality;
are understandable and practical for the client;
achieve the City’s goals timely and within the boundaries of the law;
are based on the department’s independent judgment of the law; and
protect the legal interests of the City as a municipal corporation.
The City of Sugar Land’s City Attorney’s Office oversees legal services to the City Manager, City Council, boards and commissions, and department directors by writing, reviewing and handling legislation, contracts and other formal documents, preparing legal opinions, and handling prosecutions in the Municipal Court on behalf of the City and the State of Texas. The Office has a total of 7 full time employees with a fiscal year 2020 budget of $1,092,338. Operational hours are Monday through Friday, 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.
The objective is to provide responsive, competent, and satisfactory services in an effective and efficient manner. The City Attorney’s Office strives to do this with a strong sense of responsibility to contain costs through prudent use of City resources.
