Missing a Court Appearance

A Violate Promise to Appear is a violation that is added to a case when a person does not appear to handle their ticket.  This additional offense, a “Violate Promise to Appear” and the associated fees, will be filed against any person that is in violation of appearing to answer a citation.

The appearance date is printed on the citation.  It is at the bottom of the ticket.  Both the initial citation and the Violate Promise to Appear will be processed for warrants if summonses to appear in court are ignored.  When a warrant is added to a citation the fine is increased for each case receiving a warrant.

The defendant may be reported to the court’s collections agency and more fees may be added to the balance of each case when they go into collections.  Additionally, the court will notify the Texas Department of Public Safety of the warrants against the defendant.
