Municipal Court Administrators Earn Certification; Beverly Wins Award

Sugar Land, TX – The Texas Court Clerks Association (TCCA) has selected Sugar Land Municipal Court Administrator Kendra Beverly as the recipient of the 2020 Distinguished Service Award. Additionally, the National Center for State Courts’ Institute for Court Management (ICM) certified Beverly and Deputy Court Administrator Brittany Wright as Certified Court Managers (CCM).

TCCA works to maintain public confidence in the judicial system through focusing on professional development, standards and administration of justice in the Texas Municipal and Justice Courts. The Distinguished Service Award recognizes a service, program, task or endeavor that benefits TCCA by showing dedication and extraordinary commitment.

ICM was founded in 1970 to improve state courts through training and educating managers. In the 1980s, ICM merged with the National Center for State Courts, an entity charged with educating those in charge of administering justice. The resulting organization provides education and training courses for ICM certification. The top level of ICM certification is the ICM Fellows Program; becoming a CCM is the first step in achieving access to the ICM Fellows Program.

Beverly and Wright began the coursework for the CCM designation in August 2018 and completed the program in December 2020. The program required Beverly and Wright to complete a variety of courses in topics ranging from budget and fiscal management to project management for courts. They were two of only 40 court professionals admitted to the invitation-only program through the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center.

Under Beverly’s leadership, Sugar Land Municipal Court has been recognized for its efforts in implementing remote appearances and hybrid pre-trials among the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, Beverly is heavily involved in promoting the education and development of her staff, resulting in Sugar Land having three out of the 123 certified municipal court clerks in Texas on staff.

“Kendra, Brittany and all city court staff continually demonstrate a high level commitment to the court and the city,” said Director of Finance Jennifer Brown. “Staff certifications such as the Certified Court Manager provide an extra level of assurance to the public that our court administrators have mastered the competencies to be able to address today’s challenges in the courts. The city is proud of Kendra and Brittany’s ongoing commitment to their education through this certification, and we are fortunate to have them as valued employees.”
