[ARCHIVED] Sugar Land Memorial Day Ceremony to Salute Fallen Soldiers

Sugar Land, TX - To commemorate soldiers who died in active military service, the city of Sugar Land will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 31, at Sugar Land Memorial Park, 15300 University Blvd.  Admission is free and open to the public.

The event will begin at 10 a.m., and attendees can enjoy a military vehicle exhibit presented by the Sixth Cavalry Historical Association and visit vendor booths. A formal tribute will follow at 11 a.m. with words of remembrance by local dignitaries.   American Legion District Commander Rick Huntley will be the keynote speaker.

The program will continue the community tradition of acknowledging the names of veterans engraved inside the walls of the Remembrance Tower at Sugar Land Memorial Park.   Patriotic music tributes will be performed, Houston Commemorative Air Force will present a military flyover and there will be a 21-gun salute.  The ceremony will close with a traditional flag observance led by local Boy Scouts at noon.

There will also be a creative station for children’s patriotic crafts, and food concessions will be available for purchase.   Public parking and shuttle services will be available at Brazos River Park, 18427 Southwest Freeway. Complimentary shuttle services will run continuously from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

To maintain the safety of those attending and staff, self-screening is encouraged prior to arrival, and masks are recommended when not able to maintain the six-foot distance.
