Agreement Approved for Sugar Land-based Accredo Packaging, Inc. Expansion

Sugar Land, TX- Sugar Land City Council recently approved a tax abatement agreement with Accredo Packaging, Inc. securing an additional $9.5 million in capital investment to its Sugar Land Business Park location, 30 new jobs, and the retention of 525 jobs through 2031.

The agreement provides for the company’s fourth expansion in Sugar Land; development of a two-story, 83,000 square foot building to be completed by KDW builders, including covered parking on the first level and approximately 40,000 square feet of office on the second level.

"We are excited to continue our investment in the community with the addition of a new office building in our Sugar Land facility,” said Accredo Packaging Chief Executive Officer Hank Nguyen.  “Accredo Packaging is not only dedicated to providing sustainable packaging solutions for our customers but also to creating sustainable, mission-oriented jobs for members of the broader Sugar Land community."

Accredo manufactures and supplies sustainable, high-value, flexible packaging predominantly for pre-packaged food and consumer product markets in North America. These include barrier films, pre-made pouches, towel and tissue wrap and bundling film for companies like Texas Tissue, Wholesome Sweeteners, and H-E-B.

Accredo chose Sugar Land in 2009 to build their corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility and has continued to thrive in the City.  This project will be Accredo’s fourth expansion in Sugar Land, bringing its total campus development to 578,000 square feet and one of the City’s top 5 employers.

The Office of Economic Development is proactive in capitalizing on opportunities to expand, construct or relocate businesses to the city to ensure Sugar Land remains an economic powerhouse within the Houston region.  These proactive efforts ensure a strong economy, support quality services for Sugar Land residents and allow the city to maintain the second lowest tax rate in the state among cities of similar size.

The Office of Economic Development has worked closely with Accredo from the inception of their campus until now. For this fourth expansion, Economic Development worked to negotiate an agreement that will assist Accredo in maximizing the use of their entire campus.

“Accredo is a valued member of the Sugar Land business community, and the city is thrilled to work with them on their fourth expansion,” said Director of Economic Development Elizabeth Huff. “As one of our major employers, Accredo’s expansion will continue to grow our highly educated globally diverse workforce and increase the development of our industrial sector.”
