Sugar Land Courts Craft Beer Tourism, Economic Development

2024 City News Releases Posted on April 05, 2024

Sugar Land, TX - The city of Sugar Land’s recent decision to join the Brew City, Texas program signals a commitment to fostering economic growth and entrepreneurial opportunities.

As a member of the program -- launched by the Texas Craft Brewers Guild in March 2024 -- Sugar Land joins as an ‘Emerging Brewscape’ that encourages aspiring business owners, entrepreneurs and Texas breweries considering expansion to explore local opportunities. With a thriving local community and new development opportunities, Sugar Land is poised to welcome new ventures and contribute to the flourishing craft beer industry in Texas.

Event Production Manger Briana Williams says, “Saint Arnold Brewery has been a strong partner for several of Sugar Land’s community events for many years.”

In addition, Talyard Brewing Co. is opening a 3.5-acre site at 1033 Imperial Blvd. later this year.

“As a growing city, we are excited about joining the program, and with Talyard's opening soon, Sugar Land is poised to be the first city in the program to make the transition from an ‛Emerging Brewscape’ to a ‛Craft Beer Destination’ before the end of the year,” explains Williams.

With more than 400 breweries calling the Lone Star State home, craft beer contributes a staggering $4.5 billion annually to the Texas economy—the third most of any state—and supports more than 30,000 jobs. Still, when it comes to breweries per capita, Texas ranks a distant 47th, underscoring the potential for further industry growth in Sugar Land.

“The Brew City, Texas program represents a significant milestone in the Texas Craft Brewers Guild’s efforts to support and elevate the craft brewing industry in Texas,” said TCBG Executive Director Caroline Wallace. “By collaborating with ‘emerging brewscapes’ like Sugar Land who are seeking a brewery partner to bolster tourism, drive economic development and provide a fun and engaging ‘third space’ destination for local residents, we aim to stimulate local economies and further establish Texas as a world-class beer market.”

Sugar Land joins a diverse coalition of communities across the state, united in their shared vision to promote Texas craft beer and empower local economies.
