Lane Closures

Update: Jan 15, 2025

Starting Thursday (1/16), the inside lanes of northbound and southbound Settlers Way, from Flintwood Dr through the intersection at HWY 6, will be closed as part of an intersection improvement project. Lane closures are expected to be in effect through March 2025.

Please be mindful of work crews, expect traffic delays, and when possible, avoid the area to prevent traffic congestion. Visit its.sugarlandtx.gov for current traffic conditions in Sugar Land.

About This Project

Since 2016, residents have raised concerns about traffic congestion and long waits near the SH 6 traffic signal on eastbound Settlers Way. Vehicles in the single left turn lane often block through traffic, and drivers from the nearby retail center cut through the queue, creating unsafe conditions.

Between 2016 and 2018, 14 accidents were reported in the area. In 2019, traffic experts analyzed the issue and proposed solutions. After public meetings in 2020 and 2021 staff received feedback about the proposed turn lane options. The recommended plan includes narrowing the Settlers Way median to create two left turn lanes and changing the retail center access to only allow left turns, improving safety and flow.
