Fostering Unique Neighborhoods (F.U.N.) Grant

Accomplishments

Since its establishment in 2002, the Sugar Land 4B Corporation has partnered with community groups on 41 projects, contributing $1,708,192, while community groups have added $2,031,330, resulting in a combined investment of $3,739,522 into capital projects aimed at enhancing the city's aesthetics.

Through partnerships with neighborhoods and community groups, the Fostering Unique Neighborhoods Grant Program aims to empower local entities like homeowners associations (HOAs), property owners associations (POAs), and recognized community groups (RCGs) to revitalize and create distinctive spaces that embody the unique character of each neighborhood or commercial area. These collaborations foster economic development and workforce retention & attraction by leveraging placemaking, mobility enhancements, and beautification efforts to improve community quality of life.

The Highlands FY23 Project

Before

The Highlands HOA partnered with the Sugar Land 4B Corporation (SL4B) through the City's Joint Capital Improvement Program to redevelop a dilapidated, unused, filled-in pool area in central Sugar Land.

The Highlands HOA removed existing fencing & light poles and installed new shade structures, grills, and playground equipment in-place of the previously unused pool area. Thanks to a partnership with the SL4B, a new recreational area is now available for the public to enjoy.
