Update: July 27
This work has been completed.
UPDATE: July 25
Union Pacific Railroad’s scheduled work to improve the crossings at Brooks Street and Eldridge Road was not completed as planned today due to equipment issues. Following their scheduled closure at Highway 6 tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the railroad company will return to Eldridge and close the crossing to perform work necessary to improve the crossing. A similar closure will occur at Brooks Street tomorrow if time permits; if not, it will be scheduled for another day. The closures are planned to improve the quality of the crossings along U.S. Highway 90A.
The work is the result of continued efforts to influence a solution that meets the expectations of the City and our residents. Residents should seek alternate routes during the crossing closures, as delays are expected. We appreciate your patience while this important work is completed. UPRR established the railroad and their right of way before the city of Sugar Land was built. UPRR owns the rights to the railroad and all rights of way at the crossings. The City cannot have any work performed within 25 feet of the rail track without proper permits from UPRR.
We encourage residents to use the Railroad Tracker feature on the MySugarLand App or visit its.sugarlandtx.gov to monitor railroad crossings and view real-time traffic data. If residents have any questions or concerns about the railroad, contact the UPR Response Management Communications Center at (888)-877-7267.
