About this Project

This TxDOT project includes the relocation of utilities which require tree removal. It is TxDOT’s standard practice to clear the entire right-of-way (ROW) on these types of projects. During the design phase, city staff requested that only immediately impacted trees be removed. The original plan called for the removal of 175 trees in the approximately 2 acres of acquired ROW. The diligence of city staff resulted in the preservation of 88 of the 175 trees, approximately 50% of the trees originally identified to be removed will be saved. Daytime lane closures are already taking place for utility relocation and tree removal, Monday-Friday 9a.m-3p.m.  Learn more about Sugar Land’s Tree City USA designation and efforts to ensure our tree canopy continues to thrive at www.sugarlandtx.gov/trees

This is another project that is intended to improve mobility, the number one concern of residents as expressed in our most recent citizen satisfaction survey; address safety along one of our busiest roadways, ensuring Sugar Land remains safer than ever before; as the city’s commitment to aggressively investing in infrastructure continues.
