How To Clear Your Warrant

IF YOU HAVE AN ACTIVE WARRANT AND YOU VOLUNTARILY APPEAR IN THE SUGAR LAND MUNICIPAL COURT OR AT THE COURT CLERK’S WINDOW YOU WILL NOT BE ARRESTED WHILE ACTING IN GOOD FAITH. YOU WILL BE PROVIDED OPTIONS THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO YOU BASED ON YOUR WARRANT TYPE.

Warrant Types

Arrest Warrant
(Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Article 45.014)

An arrest warrant is issued when a sworn complaint or affidavit based on probable cause has been filed before the municipal court and the person fails to appear in response to the case filed with the court. The judge may then issue a warrant for the arrest of the accused and deliver the same to the proper officer to be executed.

Capias Pro Fine Warrant
(Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Article 45.045)

A Capias Pro-Fine is an order directing any Texas Peace Officer to immediately arrest a defendant and bring that defendant immediately before the court to show cause (good reason) why that person has failed to satisfy the judgment (pay their fine and court costs).

Request for Jail Time Served

Effective September 1, 2021, if you have an unpaid balance or if you are found guilty of an offense in this Court, you may be entitled to credit toward what you owe for any time that you have been confined in jail or prison for another offense that occurred after the date of your offense in this Court. If you believe you are entitled to this credit for time served, you should submit a Request for Time Served so that your time of confinement in jail or prison can be verified.

For Final Orders:
Proof of incarceration is required. To request credit for time served you must submit a copy of the judgment of the court finding you guilty and sentencing you to incarceration and a letter from the institution in which you were incarcerated showing the date you entered and the date you were released.

It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure that the Court has received your request for credit for time served.  It is also the responsibility of the individual to follow-up with the Court and check the status of the request for time served.

After completing the form, you may submit the form by email to Municipal Court, in person at the court lobby windows, via mail, or via drop box (located at the end of the sidewalk in front of the municipal court building).
