Captain Chris Thompson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in business from Sam Houston State University. He received a Master of Business Administration, MBA, from the University of Houston-Victoria as well as a Master Degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. Captain Thompson is a graduate of the 263rd Session of the FBI National Academy as well as a graduate of The Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College Class 71. Captain Thompson has received the City of Sugar Land Champion Employee Award 2 times and has been the CPAAA Officer of the Year 2 times as well.
Captain Thompson has been a sworn member of the Sugar Land Police Department for over 30 years. During this time, he has been assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations, Training and Recruiting, and Accreditation Division. In addition to his primary duties, Captain Thompson fulfilled various roles throughout his career. These included serving as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Narcotics Investigator, and SWAT team member. He also took on leadership positions, such as Patrol Sergeant, Training and Recruiting Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, and Training and Recruitment Captain.
Captain Thompson is currently assigned to the Patrol Bureau and is responsible for K9, Patrol, and Beat Accountability.
