Emergency Management Coordinator Jarred Thomas
Jarred Thomas is a highly experienced professional in the fields of Emergency Management and Public Safety. He started his journey with a strong educational background, having obtained bachelor's degrees from Texas A&M University in 1994 and The University of Texas at Tyler in 1996.
Jarred has spent more than three decades committed to emergency services. In 1993, he started his career in Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Then, in 2008, he made a pivotal transition into Emergency Management, a field he has been deeply passionate about ever since. Throughout his career, Jarred has had the opportunity to contribute to various facets of emergency services, including firefighting, hazardous materials, EMS, and Emergency Management.
Throughout his professional journey, he has held noteworthy positions at various organizations. He served at Williamson County OEM from 2008 to 2019 and later at Travis County OEM from 2022 to 2023. Currently, he works with the City of Sugar Land. In addition to his institutional roles, He has been the owner and program coordinator of Emergency Management Training and Services. Through this endeavor, he provided vital EMS training and consulting services to First Responder Organizations in Central Texas.
Jarred Thomas was recognized for his dedication and knowledge when he received the Emergency Manager of the Year award from the Texas Colorado River Floodplain Coalition. He actively contributed to disaster response in various capacities, including significant events such as Hurricanes Katrina-Rita in 2005, Ike in 2008, and Harvey in 2017. Additionally, he contributed to disaster response during the Wildfire Season in 2011, Tropical Storm Hermine in 2010, Texas Floods in May 2016, and the Llano River Flood of 2018.
In addition to his professional commitments, Jarred has been actively involved in community initiatives. He has served as a member of the Capital Area Council of Government's Homeland Security Taskforce and has contributed his expertise to several state and federal workgroups that specifically address the issue of flash flooding in Central Texas
Jarred Thomas is a certified Emergency Manager and a licensed Paramedic. He currently serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator and is assigned to the Special Operations Bureau where he continues to navigate the dynamic field of Emergency Management with an unwavering commitment: to safeguard communities and enhance resilience in the face of adversity.
