Commercial Solid Waste and Recycling Services

In the City of Sugar Land, all commercial solid waste customers are required to utilize services from Republic Services. Sugar Land City Council granted an exclusive franchise to BFI Waste Services of Texas, L.P. (Republic Services) for the collection and disposal of solid waste from commercial properties.

This exclusive franchise also includes the collection and disposal of residential and commercial construction and demolition debris for projects that exceed 30 days. If your project will exceed 30 days, you must use Republic Services. If your project will not exceed 30 days, you may use a City licensed service provider.

Please note:

  • Commercial solid waste operators collecting, transporting, or disposing of commercial solid waste or temporary construction and demolition waste must obtain a license from the City.
  • Recyclable materials operators collecting, transporting, or disposing of recyclable material from commercial property must obtain a license from the City.
  • Solid Waste and Recyclable Material Operator Licenses can be applied for through our Citizen Self Service (CSS) portal.

Starting a commercial recycling program

The City of Sugar Land is ready to help you get started by providing a free waste audit. We will meet with you to customize a recycling program to fit your companies' needs and budget. Schedule a waste audit by sending an email to solidwaste@sugarlandtx.gov. Remember, if your company is not recycling, you are throwing money away!
